The Michael Caines Restaurant looks the part and seems to have a reasonable reputation around town... but in practice it doesn't seem to live up to the reputation it's aiming for. Last time I ate there the food was 3 times more expensive than most of the other restaurants in the area and was lower quality than something I could have picked up for under a fiver in one of the cheaper branded pubs around town. The service was slow, disorganised and bordering on rude.Someone paid for my meal last time I went and I still thought it wasn't worth while! There's no way I'd visit this place again on my own tab!
I have visited this cafe bar twice recently but never again. The first time the service was slow and we only got served after asking to be. The second time we sat in the main walkway and about five different staff walked up and down over the 10 minutes we were waiting. Not one had the decency to acknowledge us or even say we will be with you in a minute. It seems that the only training in this place is how to be aloof and avoid eye contact with customers at all cost. We walked out the second time. The first time the food was indifferent as well. Used to be a reasonable place but now so far up their own!
This review is for the MC Cafe Bar, which styles itself as "the place to eat, day or night." It's run by Michael Caines, and although part of the same hotel, is seperate from The Michael Caines Restaurant.MC Cafe BarIt's awful. I could go into details about every aspect of my visit, but it's too painful to relive, apart from the sight on arrival of an old man in a wheelchair being pushed at speed down a ramp by a staffmember within the hotel, and was visibly frightened. I had fish and chips, which was in fact some deep fried batter with the rumour of a fish inside. Cappucino coffee was served in an espresso cup. The service was slow. The restaurant was not busy. I will not be back.
