About Us

We love plants, especially trees, as they are the perfect way to create an impact and make the planet healthier and more enjoyable for future generations. They're essential for wildlife - providing food, shelter and habitat; they improve the environment by storing carbon, filtering the air and preventing flooding and landslips. Trees and hedging create beautiful screens and barriers and are one of the best eco-friendly gifts to give or receive.

At Bowhayes Trees we have been growing trees for over 30 years and have a commercial cider orchard in which we nurture and produce flavourful apples for outstanding local cider producers.

We love meeting our customers in the Nursery here in Devon and discussing plans, but if you can't get to us, we hope to bring the plants to you. We've curated some beautiful collections to help you choose the right plant for your needs, but if you would like more advice, then our specialist sales team are happy to chat through your ideas with you.

Our Services

We grow much of our own stock and what we don't have, we work with brilliant and knowledgeable partners to provide you with a fantastic range predominantly grown in the UK.

We are the UK's longest established growers of hybrid willow and poplar. These fast growing trees are used for screening, Short Rotation Coppicing (SRC), bank stabilization and windbreaks to name just a few uses.

We know some people like to select plants themselves and know exactly what they want, whilst others might need more of a helping hand. Use our fantastic filters on our website in our product areas to help narrow down your selection. If you're looking for a bit more advice, get in touch and arrange a consultation. We deliver our plants across the UK using third-party carriers for areas that are further afield. We work hard to pack our plants carefully so they arrive safely with you. If you're not happy within 14 days, let us know and we will sort it.

Ordering

You can use our website to order your plants online, or give us a call if you'd rather speak to a human. We also have a lovely Tree Nursery which is open to the public in Venn Ottery, East Devon, EX11 1RY. We are open to the public and you don't need to make an appointment. Our opening hours are on our website.

Specialist Services

These Hybrid Willow and Hybrid Poplar trees have been produced by natural plant breeding techniques. The result has led to the propagation of our own selection of very vigorous clones that will grow approximately two meters per year - 6 to 8 feet. They are very hardy and will cope with the poorest of soils and very exposed sites, making them good for screens, hedges, windbreaks, fuel, game cover, logs, timber, and 'nurse trees' around slower growing species. They are also very effective for the rapid improvement of new and developing golf courses and general landscaping.

Both the poplars and willows are available as strong well rooted trees and/or unrooted setts (cuttings). Rooted trees are available at up to 8' tall and unrooted trees (cuttings) at any length from 12 inches to 6 feet (30cm to 180cm).

Ornamental Trees

Ornamental trees are aesthetically pleasing with outstanding flowers, fragrances, shapes, colours and bark, dependent on the species. They also have many other benefits, such as screening, filtering the air, creating shade and encouraging wildlife into our gardens.

At Bowhayes, we have a fantastic selection of some of the most popular ornamental trees, including evergreen trees, to create screening and stand-out ornamental trees that make a great focal point.

Fruit Trees

Fruit & nut trees can be aesthetically pleasing, with beautiful blossoms appearing at different times of the year depending on the species. The flowers become fruits or nuts, varying in shape, flavour, size, colour and yield.

At Bowhayes, we have a great selection of some of the most popular fruit & nut trees, including pear, plum and over 18 varieties of apple trees, to name a few.
